Running For A Future
The White Kennedy Crusaders will be taking part for a second year in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure in Kelowna, BC. This year Jennifer Mendes, Senior Accountant in our West Kelowna office a part of this largest single-day, volunteer-led fundraising event for breast cancer in Canada as Individual Fundraising Coordinator.
The team is compromised of staff members, friends and family and together Jennifer and her team helped to raise $5,500 towards this amazing cause. 100% of the net funds raised in BC from the CIBC Run for the Cure will stay in our region to help fund, support and advocate for prevention, early detection, research, treatment and health care workforce improvements. In 2012, Kelowna raised $306,226, and 1,647 participants joined the walk/run.
The majority of Canadian women (approximately 80 percent) are at an average risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Average risk means that over their lifetime they have a one in nine chance, or 11 percent risk, of developing breast cancer. In 2013, it is estimated that 23,800 women and 200 men in Canada will be diagnosed with the disease.
