Congratulations to White Kennedy Partner, Michael P. Doherty on his recent appointment to the Council of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia.
“Michael is an invaluable member of both his community and the CA profession,” said Karen Christiansen, FCA, President of the ICABC. “We look forward to working with him over the coming year.” Doherty is member of the ICABC Practice Review and Licensing Committee. In the community he has served as president and board member of the South Okanagan Minor Hockey Association, and director of the Penticton Downtown Association.
“My objective in seeking election to Council is to provide a voice for members in small to medium-sized firms and communities. He continues “Our profession is undergoing major changes in response to shifts in global accounting standards as well as the potential unification of the Canadian accounting profession”, comments Mike on his newly elected position.
Michael’s background includes experience at the national firm level, as well as being a sole practitioner and partner in a mid-sized firm. I have practiced in a large city, small town, and a small city. On his contribution to the Council of The Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia, Mike states “I feel I can bring a broad, diverse point of view to represent our members at the Council table.”
The role of ICABC’s Council is to govern the CA profession in BC and develop Institute policy to support its mandate on professional education, regulation, and member service. The Council also includes three public representatives who are appointed by the provincial government. For 2013/2014, these public representatives are Barbara Brink, David Hughes, and Roland Krueger.
We know you will do a great job representing small to medium sized firms and communities, Mike!
